2012 Software Roadmap

Monday, January 30, 2012

Developing software part-time has proven to be difficult at best and with the new year comes a new outlook on my stance regarding our future plans for software.

CodeDesigner
It has long been on the top my list to rewrite and release a new version of CodeDesigner. But yet another new year has passed and the CodeDesigner release seems nowhere in sight. I believe this is due to the extensive product feature list I outlined for the first release of CodeDesigner. But the original CodeDesigner was not developed overnight and I had the luxury of working on it fulltime. So this got me thinking. Maybe I just need to start simple and work my way up to all the grand ideas I have for CodeDesigner.

CodeDesigner Lite 2012?
I recently evaluated the feature set in the original CDLite and decided it would be a more realistic goal to release a simplified lite version of CodeDesigner first. The new CodeDesigner framework already has lots of new functionality but it’s not ready for release. So rather then hold up the release of CodeDesigner forever I decided the initial release will be rather basic.

The CodeDesigner Vision
The ultimate microcontroller development IDE!

Finally an IDE designed specifically for the embedded systems marked to unify all your platform development under the same feature rich environment.

What does that mean? Support for all your development platforms though its extensible architecture. PicBasic, Arduino, Basic Stamp, Etc? No more switching between programs.

MicroWebServ
This product has had a strange following of people who can’t seem to find an alternative. I am happy to say a redesign is on the horizon.

Blog
The goal for 2012 is to release CodeDesigner Lite and blog about the development along the way. The new blog can be found here. I will be actively updating this blog with information on all software development.
